About the Festival

The Inverness festival is a week long celebration of walking and wheeling.

We aim to shine a light on the wonderful opportunities available in the heart of the Highlands to enjoy the benefits of being active outdoors!

The festival is coordinated by Partnerships for Wellbeing and brings together over 30 different partners to offer a variety of activities for different ages and abilities.

Getting active is great for our health & wellbeing and can also benefit the health of our environment. We can all play our part in reducing our carbon footprint by taking short, local journeys by foot, wheeling or public transport. The festival will champion active travel in all its forms!

The PFW festival team would like to say a massive thank you to partners and participants in this year's walking and wheeling festival-there would be no festival without our partners planning and leading the activities so we are grateful to you for sharing your time and expertise!. Despite the dire weather forecast most activities went ahead and a quick estimate is 800 people were involved this year.

We were delighted that the festival was featured on BBC Alba, as well as a piece in the Inverness Courier so I hope the publicity helped raise the profile of organisations and groups involved.

Our new activities were all well-received and we hope Walking Football with ICT Community hub; Walking Rugby with Highland Rugby Club; Karen Powell Pilates joined us to lead a Nordic Walking session at Daviot Woods, and Nordic Walking for Parkinsons at Torvean Park; and Charlotte MacKenzie from Arts In Nature led a very popular creative session for under 5’s at Ness Islands.

We welcomed back our partners from previous years: Velo City sociable cycling, Highland Paranormal’s highly popular ghost walk, a variety of history walks with Andrew Lucas from Inverness Library, guided nature walks with N4H, Highland Disabled scooter ramble which took place at Brahan Estate.

Culduthel Woods Group led the Family Woodlands adventure this year with an action packed afternoon including outdoor creative crafts, laughter yoga, fire pit, pine cone catapult, Inverness Royal British Legion Pipe Band, cycle maintenance sessions and more….

What an excellent week that was!

Already thinking about 2027 …

Hi, I’m Jayne, the Inverness Walking & Wheeling Festival Coordinator.

I joined Partnerships for Wellbeing in November 2022 to coordinate the festival and manage our health walks.

Walking is something I do a lot of in my spare time, generally accompanied by a lurcher or two, so it would be fitting to include a photo of me & Scout on a hill, on a rare sunny day!

It was a pleasure to be involved in coordinating the last two festivals and I’m looking forward to working with Marie Law, our Health Walks & Events Assistant, and our partners to create activities & events for a great festival this summer!
